Company Overview
Emergency Shelter Services: KYS provides an emergency shelter for juveniles' ages 0-17 years. The shelter program is designated for temporary stays. Extensions may be granted for clients who have no alternate placement available. KYS is currently funded for 13 beds and serves McCurtain County, along with other counties in Oklahoma. KYS has the only shelter facility within a 75 mile radius. KYS accepts clients from a variety of sources and is completely non-discriminatory in provision of services.
Community Outreach: An array of services is available under outreach. KYS offers school counseling services for all schools within McCurtain County. Parenting classes are offered on a periodic basis. Family, individual, and group counseling are available upon either request or referral from another agency or school. A crisis intervention phone line is available on a 24 hour basis. KYS works closely with the county Truant officer to provide required services for juveniles with truancy problems. KYS works diligently to network with all area resources to provide any needed services for community youth and their families.
First Offenders Program: This is an educational program for first-time juvenile offenders and their parents. This program is offered as an alternative to court. It has been extremely successful across the state because of its emphasis upon the family as a whole. Referrals come from the county Police Departments and the Juvenile Service Unit (JSU).
Community At-Risk Services (CARS): These services are directly related to juvenile offenders involved with OJA. They include: individuals & family counseling, mentoring, tutoring, career counseling and case management services.
Title XIX Outpatient Mental Health Services: These services are provided to individuals, families and groups. KYS, as a private, non-profit agency has always relied upon third-party contracts, grants and donations for its funding. Third-party contracts make up approximately 75% of the total funding for the agency. The remaining 25% is provided through donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and civic groups. Through the years, it has been proven that community-based services are more efficient in dealing with the needs of the child and the cost is much less than for traditional institutional programs.
